How does TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain work?


TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain Caplets, Gelcaps or Geltabs use a unique bi-layer formulation. Each layer contains 325 mg of acetaminophen:
The first layer dissolves quickly to provide prompt relief.
The second layer is released gradually to provide up to 8 hours of relief.

What happened to TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain geltabs?

Please note that TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain geltabs are being discontinued and replaced by new easy-to-swallow gelcaps. You may continue to use the geltabs product through the expiration date on the package.

Crushing, chewing or dissolving TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain Caplets, Gelcaps or Geltabs is not recommended. Take two caplets with water and swallow each caplet whole. Swallow only one gelcap or geltab at a time. Take a sip of water before swallowing each gelcap or geltab and wash each gelcap or geltab down with water (up to a full 8 oz glass).

According to the National Kidney Foundation, acetaminophen, the medicine in TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain, is the nonprescription pain reliever of choice for occasional use in patients with underlying kidney disease. NSAIDs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen and naproxen sodium may decrease blood flow to the kidneys in people with kidney disease. Can I take TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain if I have liver disease?
